Minions!

December 19, 2010

Behold! My minions! Size is roughly 10 inches tall.

I found this super cute pattern for a minion from Despicable Me which I decided to try out but I wanted a bigger version then what the original pattern called for to give away as Christmas presents. So here are my directions which really should be used along with the original pattern from Kat Knits (thanks by the way for the great pattern!)

Cast on 8 stitches in yellow. Divide equally on 3 needles or using circular needles like I did. I used size 7 needles for this size minion. Join together.

Row 1: kfb into each stitch (16 stitches)
Row 2: k
Row 3: kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, (etc) (24 stitches)
Row 4: k
Row 5: kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1 (etc)  (36 stitches)
Row 6: k
Row 7: kfb, k2, kfb, k2, kfb, k2, kfb, k2, kfb, k2, kfb, k2 (etc) (48 stitches)
Row 8: k
Row 9: kfb, k3, kfb, k3, kfb, k4, kfb, k3, kfb, k3, kfb, k2 (60 stitches)
Row 10 – 30: k (to make a taller minion just add more rows here)
Row 31 – 36: 6 yellow, 18 blue, 12 yellow, 18 blue, 6 yellow (6 rows)

–It might be a good idea to work on the head right now. For the goggles I used white felt plus safety eyes and make a long crochet chain with gray yarn for the outside rim and black yarn for the wrap around.

Change to just blue
Rows 37 – 50: knit
Row 51: k2tog, k3, k2tog, k3 etc (48 stitches)
Row 52: k
Row 53: k2tog, k2, k2tog, k2 (36 stitches)
Row 54: k
Row 55: k2tog, k, k2tog, k (24 stitches)
Row 56: k
Row 57: k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k1 (18 stitches)
Row 58: k
Row 59: k1, k2tog (12 stitches)
Row 60: k
Row 61: k2tog (6 stitches)
weave end into 6 stitches.

Instead of the pattern for the overall straps I just added blue crochet chains.

For the arms, cast on 8 stitches and knit an i-chord. knit about 18 rows in yellow (more or less depending on how long or short you made the minion). Switch to black and kfb for 16 stitches. Knit the next row. k2tog until the hand tapers off. Repeat for second arm.

For the feet, cast on 8 stitches and knit an i-chord for 6 rows.

Full body minion

Hope these directions make sense. Like I said, I worked off the original pattern from Kat Knits but this is just an example of how you can increase the size. Have fun and let me know if you don’t understand any part of it!

      Hi Michael!

Nice of you to offer but sadly both of these were gifts so they have been given away :/

Would you be willing to make more to sell to Michael?

Wouldn’t actually feel comfortable selling them. Don’t want to get sued by the movie or something just for $30.
